HTML Email Developer at New Ground Jiu Jitsu located in Sherman Oaks, CA and creator of Evil Emails. I love persevering through the challenges of any goal I set out to achieve and never rest until the mission has been accomplished. I often seek out and embrace challenges with open arms because they're like a cheat code for life; they force you to grow stronger, you can evolve like a Pokémon in half the time. My greatest strength is that I don't fear failure, It's given me the ability to learn any skill quickly.
I had no idea how to get started but I had to start somewhere. There was no way I was going to watch any tutorials after reading about the dreaded "tutorial hell" that had claimed the hopes and dreams of many aspiring developers. After deciding to just start, I applied the same principle to email development that I had used in other areas of my life and saw success with: skip all of the extra stuff, find out what the pros are doing, and get after it. Copy (Emulate would be a better word to use in lieu of copy, but what I did was just that, copy and paste their work into my text editor, thanks Parcel and reallygoodemails.com for helping me teach myself how to code!) them until you understand the concepts and can write your own code from scratch. My first email is the product of making three separate Litmus accounts in order to use their free trial, one thousand previews simply just wasn't enough for me to get it right at first. The time spent was well worth it, I was able to develop a fully accessible and responsive email from scratch that works on 100+ email clients and devices.
My story starts like anyone else's that heard of the glories of becoming a developer, reading through Reddit forums at three in the morning, searching up "What coding language should I learn first?" One comment stood out: email development was a hassle. Outdated code and tedious testing scared many off - but I wasn't deterred. How hard could emails be? I thought. Boy, was I wrong. Designing, coding, and testing emails posed countless problems - why are images huge on this client, why is there a white line through the center of the email?, Why is the spacing different across email clients? What in the world is Libero and what language is that? But as I persevered, I fell in love with every aspect of the development process; I became a designer, developer, and problem-solver all rolled into one.
I create/assist with designs then code them out into HTML documents. I work closely with the business owner to make sure all Mailchimp campaigns are successful.
Managed the design/development of fully accessible and responsive HTML Emails using CRM tools to ensure the success of marketing campaigns. Became adept at utilizing ESPs such as Mailchimp to personalize emails and automate customer journeys.
